Counselor Spotlight

A. Patricia Sierra

School Counselor
Waite Middle School
Norwalk, California
“I advocated for all the school counselors in our district to attend CASC [California Association of School Counselors] for the first time, so that we could learn more about our role as counselors and become aligned with the ASCA Standards. I am very vocal during our counselors’ meetings at the district… I would talk to anyone who would listen. I knew CASC would be a great opportunity for our counselors to become more familiar with ASCA in case they did not learn about it in their past training.”

School Counselor
Reginald Benton Middle School
La Mirada, California
"I've advocated for counselors by stressing to students, parents, and staff that the success of students takes a collaborative effort. I've advocated that social/emotional well being of students also contributes to their success and counselors help with that aspect."

School Counselor

"I will often speak out at meetings regarding issues that I think counselors should include in their counseling areas. I also believe that as advocates, we should consider the student's families, parents, and homes, and make it known that we do care about the WHOLE CHILD and those are the things that make them who they are."
